We believe deeply in the importance of our mission to “build people and profits, one smile and a story at a time.” Fourteen Foods is a multi-unit owner and operator of 200+ DQ Grill & Chill® restaurants and Dairy Queen Braziers in Alabama, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. Leadership Team

Matthew Frauenshuh
Matthew FrauenshuhChief Executive Officer

Matt is Chief Executive Officer of Fourteen Foods and Principal for Frauenshuh Inc. Founded in 2002 with the opening of one Dairy Queen Grill & Chill restaurant in Minnesota, Matt took ownership of Fourteen Foods in 2006 and led the then seven restaurants in the Minneapolis area. The company has grown to include more than 230 DQ Grill & Chill restaurants across 13 states under Matt’s leadership and supports more than 9,000 team members. Fourteen Foods is the largest operator of Dairy Queen franchises in the United States and continues to be rooted in a foundation of faith and family.

Matt earned a bachelor’s degree in business economics from St. Olaf College and an MBA from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. Along with Fourteen Foods, Matt shares his passion for service and community by giving his time to Folds of Honor, an organization that provides educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service-members. He also serves on the national board member for The Salvation Army and is an active YPO member. Matt lives in Minnesota with his wife Beth and their four children.

Justin Hanratty
Justin HanrattyExecutive Vice President

Justin joined Fourteen Foods full-time in October 2020 as Executive Vice President. Before joining our team, he pioneered a unique cultural advantage in the insurance arena and was recognized with both ‘Best Places to Work’ and ‘Book of Lists Largest Agencies’ awards. Under his servant leadership model, Justin successfully grew one of the largest family-owned insurance agencies in the Midwest prior to selling to USI Insurance in 2016. Justin leads our people first culture efforts with a focus on leadership growth while executing on our overall strategic plan and financial goals. He brings out the best in others and helps them find a path to success and happiness at Fourteen Foods.

Justin and his wife Hanne have two children and reside in Minnesota. In addition to being an active YPO member, he shares his talents by personally and professionally mentoring those in need. In his free time, Justin enjoys golfing and the great outdoors with his family and friends.

Chad Underwood
Chad UnderwoodChief Financial Officer

Chad is our Chief Financial Officer and leads all aspects of financial management for Fourteen Foods. He earned his undergraduate degree in Finance and Accounting, as well as his master’s degree in Accounting, from Texas Christian University (TCU). He also holds an MBA from Carlson School of Management in Minnesota.

Chad serves on the Board of Directors for Avivo, a Minneapolis-based organization that specializes in helping individuals and their family through recovery, employment, and career achievement. Chad and his wife Sara enjoy living in Minnesota with their three children.

Lesley J. Adam
Lesley J. AdamGeneral Counsel; Interim President of Double Seven Development

Lesley has been with Fourteen Foods since 2016 and, as General Counsel, oversees the legal affairs. She also serves as Interim President of Double Seven Development, a full-service real estate development and general contracting company that develops and builds new restaurants for Fourteen Foods.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in political science and government from the University of Minnesota, she went on to earn her J.D. from Mitchell Hamline School of Law. Prior to joining our team, Lesley was a practicing attorney for more than 10 years and combines her legal expertise in commercial transactions, corporate, real estate and construction law with a practical perspective to business matters.

She, her fiancé Dan, and their son William call Minnesota home.

Justin Kraus
Justin KrausVice President of Real Estate

Justin joined the Fourteen Foods family in 2008 with the acquisition of Kraus Foods and today serves as our Vice President of Real Estate. After graduation from St. Cloud State University, Justin started his professional career in home mortgage lending and property management, later operating DQ franchises.

In his role, he leads our real estate development and acquisition efforts in pursuit of our continued growth. Justin, his wife Summer, and their two boys live in Minnesota.

Paul Schmidt
Paul SchmidtVice President of Facilities

Paul Schmidt began his career with Dairy Queen in 1996 and today serves as Vice President of Facilities for Fourteen Foods. He leads by example for the facilities team dedicated to the maintenance and upkeep of our restaurants across the country and takes pride in providing outstanding service to our DQ fans and team members alike.

Paul lives in Iowa where he gives back to his community as a long-standing city council member. He enjoys downtime with wife Mona, their two grown children, and grandchildren.

Doug Hellerud
Doug HellerudSenior Director of Operational Services

Doug has made a career with the Dairy Queen brand for nearly 30 years, first with International Dairy Queen Companies (IDQ), then as a franchise owner, and now with Fourteen Foods as our Senior Director of Operational Services. His leadership covers everything from daily store operations and community marketing initiatives to ongoing technology support and sales strategies for the field.

Doug graduated from Augsburg College with a degree in Business Management and lives in Minnesota with his wife Kim. Together, they have two adult children and are active in their local community and church.

Ashleigh Moelter
Ashleigh MoelterDirector of Human Resources and Marketing

Ashleigh serves as Director of Human Resources for Fourteen Foods and brings with her a strong background in both HR and operational management. With her guidance, the team supports our restaurants with employee relations, recruiting, onboarding, and retention efforts, as well as general HR compliance and processes to ensure our valued team of champions are safe and supported. Ashleigh also lends her leadership to the strategic marketing team that supports the restaurants and the communities we serve.

Ashleigh’s family previously owned two Dairy Queen locations, making her an experienced smile server! She is married to Chris and they reside in Minnesota with their five children.

Bill Grandstaff
Bill GrandstaffVice President of Operations

Bill has more than 30 years of experience with the Dairy Queen brand and joined the Fourteen Foods family in 2012. As Vice President of Operations, he provides thoughtful leadership to our restaurant teams in Alabama, Florida, eastern Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and eastern Tennessee.

Bill, his wife Jennifer, and their four children live in Florida and he stays connected with his community through the coaching of little league youth baseball.

Mike Root
Mike RootVice President of Operations

In early 2020, Mike brought his vast restaurant management experience to the Fourteen Foods team and provided much needed leadership to our Louisville, Kentucky market. Today, he shares his knowledge and skills with restaurant leaders in Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina as Vice President of Operations.

Mike calls Kentucky home and enjoys spending time with his son and his family, including two grandchildren.

Irene Zinniel
Irene ZinnielSenior Director of Operations

Irene began her career at Fourteen Foods in 2010, bringing 25 years of management experience to the team, and has grown into her role as Senior Director of Operations. Her leadership influence stretches across South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Nebraska.

Irene resides in South Dakota, has three grown children who give back through their service as a nurse, fireman, and law enforcement officer respectively, and two beautiful grandchildren.
