We believe deeply in the importance of our mission to “build people and profits, one smile and a story at a time.” Fourteen Foods is a multi-unit owner and operator of 200+ DQ Grill & Chill® restaurants and Dairy Queen Braziers in Alabama, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. Leadership Team

Matthew Frauenshuh
Matthew FrauenshuhChief Executive Officer

Matthew D. Frauenshuh is Chief Executive Officer of Fourteen Foods and Principal for Frauenshuh Inc. Fourteen Foods was founded in 2002 with the opening of one Dairy Queen Grill & Chill restaurant in Minnesota. Matt took over management and ownership of the company in 2006, beginning with seven restaurants in the Minneapolis area.

Currently, Fourteen Foods owns and operates over 220 DQ Grill & Chill restaurants across 13 states and has more than 9,000 employees. Fourteen Foods continues to operate on five core values, which are focused on faith and family and is the largest operator of Dairy Queens in the United States.

Along with Fourteen Foods, Matt currently sits on the boards of the National Prayer Breakfast CEO Panel, Folds of Honor and the Salvation Army National Advisory Board as well as numerous for-profit boards of his various business ventures. Matt is also very active within his church.

Matt earned a bachelor’s degree in business economics from St. Olaf College and an MBA from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. He currently lives in Greenwood, Minnesota with his wife Beth and their four young children.

Justin Kraus
Justin KrausChief Investment Officer

Justin Kraus is Chief Investment Officer and has been with Fourteen Foods since 2008. Justin manages the non-operations side of the business having real estate, construction, vendor management, I.T. and our legal team under his guidance. After college at St. Cloud State University Justin started his professional career in home mortgage lending and property management prior to joining the DQ brand in 2006 and ultimately Fourteen Foods.

Justin lives in Minnesota with his wife Summer and two boys.

Chad Underwood
Chad UnderwoodChief Financial Officer

Chad Underwood joined the company in the Controller role in 2018 and moved to VP of Finance and now presently, Fourteen Foods Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Chad is responsible for Fourteen Food’s overall financial management, including the company’s financial reporting and long-range business planning. He oversees treasury management, operational accounting, financial preparation, and financial analysis.

Chad serves on the Board of Directors for Avivo, a nonprofit based in Minneapolis that seeks to increase well-being through recovery, employment, and career achievement.

Chad earned an undergraduate degree in Finance and Accounting and a Masters of Accounting from Texas Christian University. He also earned an MBA, with an emphasis in finance and management, from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. He currently lives in Minnetonka, MN with his wife Sara and their three young children.

Paul Schmidt
Paul SchmidtVice President of Facilities

Paul Schmidt is Vice President of Facilities for Fourteen Foods and has 23 years of Dairy Queen experience having started on the operations side of the business in 1996. He started with Fourteen Foods as Director of Facilities in March of 2008. Paul oversees a team of 5 Directors of Facilities and 30 plus maintenance technicians who perform repairs and preventative maintenance on 220 plus locations over 13 states.

Along with working at Fourteen Foods he served 16 years as a City Council member for the City of Leland, IA, served on the Winnebago County Iowa 911 Board and has been on several of his church boards in the past.

He currently lives in Leland, IA with his Wife Mona and has 2 grown children.

Lesley J. Adam
Lesley J. AdamGeneral Counsel/Vice President

Lesley has been with Fourteen Foods since 2016 serves as General Counsel for Fourteen Foods and Vice President of Double Seven Development while also leading the company’s Human Resources division. Lesley oversees the legal affairs of the companies and is responsible for real estate development and management as well as ensuring our valued team of Champions are safe and supported. A practicing attorney for over 10 years, Lesley combines her legal expertise in commercial transactions, corporate, real estate and construction law with a practical perspective and approach to business and personnel matters.

Doug Hellerud
Doug HellerudSenior Director of Strategic Projects

Doug is Senior Director of Strategic Projects. Doug joined Fourteen Foods in 2019 and works on new projects and initiatives within the company designed to impact the sales and profitability of the DQ Restaurants.

Doug began his career working for IDQ Companies on the New Store Opening Team and transitioned to an IDQ Business Consultant. Doug left IDQ in 1996 to become the GM of a new DQ restaurant in Apple Valley, MN. In 2003 Doug became an owner of the Apple Valley, MN DQ Grill and Chill. In his time as owner Doug served as the head of the DQ Minneapolis DMA and also served on the IDQ National Franchisee Advisory Council. Doug has close to 30 years of experience in the DQ Brand.

Doug graduated from Augsburg College with a degree in Business Management. He lives in Lonsdale, Minnesota with his wife Kim, together they have two young adult daughters and are members of Trondhjem Lutheran Church. Doug enjoys golf, hunting with his two labs, grilling on a Green Egg and being the PA announcer at local high school games.
